Hatch Fly Fishing Wanaka New Zealand guided fishing update: Wednesday January 18, 2012
Fishing report
Fishing again has been sensational this week, with the rivers fully recovered from the rain that we had last weekend. A fresh Both brown and rainbow trout are being caught in good numbers, and mainly on dry flies such as cicadas. If trout are fussy and rejecting your large terrestrial patters, then the green beetle is a good "go to" fly.
There are also big hatches of Damsel flies with the warm weather, and so damsel fly nymphs are also working well.
Tussock cicadas should be making their appearance soon on the high country lakes, so it may be worth making a drive east if the weather turns bad here.
Over the next week the weather is quite good, apart from a bit of wind and drizzle on Sunday.
Early mornings are turning on the best fishing, and in the afternoon look for deeper water as the trout avoid the heat.
Fly of the week: Damsel nymph.
Guided Fly Fishing
I am now organising for the 2012season - There are still some great dates and weeks left. I have quite good availability, but please try and book as far ahead as possible to avoid disapointment.
Our main season runs from November until May.
Please feel free to fire any questions you may have my way regarding trip booking and fly fishing around Wanaka, Hawea, and the Southern West Coast.
Best regards,
Craig. |
